It’s surprising what a few hours on a beach can do to prepare you for the busiest time of year for The Whickers.

Just days before heading to Sheffield Jane Ray and Phoebe Hall trekked South to visit Editorial Consultant Jane Mote for a breath of fresh air and some quite literal blue skies thinking.

The detailed planning for the logistics for the five finalists, judges and trustees was gone through meticulously before discussions about the pitch training and then the big day of live pitches to decide who will win the 2019 £80,000 Funding Award.

“It’s amazing how much you can get done with a cool breeze, sea air and a tasty plate of picnic food. We’re now all set for the excitement of the Funding awards” said Whickers Artistic Director Jane Ray.

beechtobeach Director Jane Mote will be on the judging panel alongside Kate Townsend (Netflix), Oli Harbottle (Dogwoof), Mandy Chang (BBC Storyville) and Lucila Moctezuma (Chicken and Egg Pictures).

And beechtobeach videographer Josh Kershaw will be filming The Whickers event. Sheffield Documentary Festival runs from June 6-12.
